The film visionaries: Alex, Kimberly, Wendy, Nick, Sam, and Iris.
A Visionary is the term referring to those who have experienced premonitions of the near-future and have witnessed how Death has designed their demise. After having the premonition, the visionary will save a handful of people before the disaster can happen. They are then added to Death's list, and it falls to them to determine the signs and save the survivors from the gruesome deaths that are laid out for them.
When a visionary has a premonition, it shows several people dying in a disaster before the visionary dies, then it zooms out of their eye as they realise what is to come.
Visionaries
- Juliet Collins - 1888
Juliet is the earliest recorded visionary in the franchise. She had a premonition of 4 Mornington Crescent having a gas explosion and killing everyone. She survived by achieving New Life after drowning, making her the first visionary (and person overall) to actually beat Death.
- Iris Campbell - 1969
Iris is also one of the earliest known visionaries in the franchise's history. She had a premonition of The Sky View's collapse and managed to prevent the disaster from happening. She could read the signs of Death and stop them.
Due to the amount of survivors, it took Death a long time to kill off the attendees of The Sky View who were supposed to die at the collapse, long enough for many of them to have families. Due to this, it forced Death to also claim their descendants. Iris was also among the survivors to continue her bloodline, and by the time it was her turn, she was already well prepared to fight it off, relocating to an enforced cabin to keep herself alive long enough to protect her family and the last one on the list. Iris also made a book with collected data about Death's modus operandi, analysing disasters that she determined were caused by Death.
Iris died to prove to her granddaughter, Stefani that Death was coming for their family.
- Sam Lawton - 1999
Sam had a premonition of the North Bay Bridge's collapse and managed to save seven people and himself from the disaster. Unlike other visionaries, Sam did not see many signs of Death.
Sam was killed in the Flight 180 explosion, as he was too late to realize that someone on board had their own vision.
- Alex Browning - 1999
Alex had a premonition of Flight 180's explosion and saved six people and himself from the disaster. He could read many signs of Death and was able to skip people from his Death list.
Between the events of the first and second movie, Alex was bludgeoned by a falling brick.
- Kimberly Corman - 2000
Kimberly had a premonition of Route 23's pileup and saved seven people and herself from the accident. She was the first visionary to reveal fragments of Premonition, which revealed valuable information about her future and visions of the accident. She could read signs and was able to save other people from dying. She and Clear Rivers (Alex Browning's girlfriend and another person on Death's list) were able to teach other survivors on how to identify signs.
Kimberly was originally supposed to die with her late mother at the hands of thugs, but she was caught up in an article about Tod Waggner's "suicide", and was subsequently added to Death's list. She's also supposed to die first in reality along with Dano, Shaina, and Frankie, but Thomas Burke saved her at the last second.
Kimberly, upon realising what to do, drove into a lake and drowned herself, and was later resuscitated, becoming one of the few visionaries to achieve New Life and beat Death.
- Jack Curtis - 2003
Jack had a premonition of John Doe's murder spree and saved six people and himself from the tragedy.
- Jessica Golden - 2004
Jessica had a premonition of the Club Kitty collapse and saved eight people and herself from the destruction. Jessica is also amongst the small group of visionaries (and characters overall) who actually beat Death using the New Life method.
- Patricia Fuller - 2005
Patricia had a premonition of a subway bombing at the South Hill Metroline and saved five people and herself from the destruction. Patricia is also amongst the small group of visionaries who actually beat Death using the New Life method.
Patricia is the descendant of the first known visionary and survivor, Juliet Collins.
- Stephanie Pulaski - 2005
Sherry had a premonition of the Coral Clipper sinking and saved seven people and herself from the disaster, though her face was disfigured by a piece of debris. She made a deal with Death to repair her face in exchange for her help in killing the other survivors, but eventually she backed out of the deal, which later prompted Death to have her run over by a bus.
- Wendy Christensen - 2005
Wendy had a premonition of Devil's Flight's derailment, saving nine people and herself from the crash. She could read signs in photographs she had taken and had great intuition that led her to other survivors of Devil's Flight. She was the first known visionary to experience a second premonition, this being the premonition of the crash of Train 081, but Wendy did not survive this time.
Although Wendy was able to determine that Death was a sentient force, she believes that there is no life after death, as she does not feel the presence of her ex-boyfriend Jason. She never fully understood the concept of Death's design, but she still managed to find other characters who were in danger from her Death's list.
- Danny King - 2005
Danny had a premonition of a train crash at the 34th Street and saved seven people and himself from the accident.
- Carly Hagan - 2006
Carly had a premonition of the Hotel Grand Tzolk'in explosion and saved nine people and herself from the disaster.
- Nick O'Bannon - 2009
Nick had a premonition of the McKinley Speedway's crash, saving nine people and himself. He could read signs and had the ability to have fragments of Premonition, now more accentuated, that revealed how the people who survived the accident would die. He was the second visionary to have a second premonition of an accident, which was Tagert Theatres 13's explosion.
Nick, just like Wendy, also never fully understood Death’s design, as he believed the chain had been broken after Janet was skipped and later when he came to know that George had repeatedly tried to kill himself unsuccessfully. However that never stopped him from going out to find and try to help the other characters on Death’s list until his ultimate demise, when a runaway truck bashed him against a wall in a coffee shop.
- Stefani Reyes - 2024
While not actually being a visionary, Iris's granddaughter, Stefani Reyes had dreams of the same premonition she had experienced all those years ago. It's presumed that it was due to Death giving Iris cancer, which was the only way she could be claimed since she knew all its tricks, and this caused Iris's premonition to be passed down to Stefani. She was also able to identify Death's signs.
Stefani almost drowned but was resuscitated by her brother Charlie, causing them to think they had achieved New Life, a week later however, the siblings discovered from a doctor that Stefani's heart never stopped (and it had to happen to be considered dead), meaning the cycle never broke. Moments later, they fell victim to a train derailment that destroyed most of the neighborhood.
- Allie Goodwin-Gaines - Unknown (Post 1999)
Allie had a premonition of an elevator fall at the Merlin's Tower and saved four people and herself from the disaster.
Trivia
- Visionaries tend to die last in their premonitions, with Iris, Alex, Kimberly, Danny, and Allie being notable exceptions.
- Visionaries tend to save others from their list, with the only notable exceptions being Kimberly.
- Some visionaries tend to have more than one Premonition, like Wendy and Nick, while others tend to have fragments of Premonitions, like Kimberly.
- Notably, Nick's vision of the mall's explosion didn't end with his death. That was presumably because it was a false vision, given to him by Death.
- Wendy was the only visionary to date to have two premonitions that ended with her death.
- So far, every visionary is Caucasian.
- To this moment, Alex is the only visionary in the films to not have the zoom out effect from his eyes. Instead, he simply wakes up from his premonition like it was a nightmare.
